Last Updated 23 September 2016, 17:10 IST

Strengthening its enterprise portfolio in the country, Intel India on Friday announced the launch of high-performance computing (HPC) processor Xeon Phi.

Launching the product, Intel Enterprise and HPC Platform Group Senior Worldwide Director Nash Palaniswamy said Xeon Phi will bring a paradigm shift in the HPC.

“The Intel Xeon Phi product family is part of a complete solution that brings together key technologies for easy-to-deploy and high-performance clusters. Since data volumes continue to explode and become more complex, new hardware and architectures are required to drive deeper insights,” he said.

Palaniswamy said Intel through its Xeon Phi processor will enable HPC in India, largely for the science and technology research vertical.

“It can help get products to market faster, solve complex problems faster, and power simulations that don’t require physical testing. Intel is looking at collaborating more closely with the automotive, manufacturing and aerospace industries,” he said. The  Xeon Phi processor is Intel’s first bootable host processor specifically designed for highly parallel workloads.
