19-year-old stabbed to death

Killed for intervening in argument, accused held

A 19-year-old accountant was stabbed to death when he intervened in an argument between his brother and a man in East Delhi’s Geeta Colony on Monday night.

The accused and his accomplice fled the place after the incident. However, were arrested by police on Tuesday.

The incident happened around 10.30 pm when Govind, who used to work as a secretary with an advocate in Karkardooma Court, went inside a park near his house to call his elder brother Dharamveer, 23, a garment factory worker in Gandhi Nagar, for dinner. A native of Begusarai in Bihar Govind used to live with his brother at the slums of Geeta Colony.

Inside the park, Dharamveer was engaged in a heated argument with Dheeraj and Ravi over some money matter. Seeing the two men squabbling with his brother, Govind intervened and was picked on by Dheeraj and Ravi for a fight.

Agitated over the unexpected intervention of Govind, Dheeraj stabbed Govind with a knife five times in his stomach.

People at the park informed police about the incident. The police arrived within minutes and took Govind to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Police said Dheeraj’s brother is an accused in a rape case and is behind the bars. Dheeraj was asking money for the bail of his brother from Dharamveer. When he refused an argument ensued between the two.

After registering a case of murder, police of Geeta Colony police station raided several places where Dheeraj and Ravi were expected to be present. In the afternoon, the duo were arrested from the area, confirmed senior police officers.
