Last Updated 06 October 2016, 18:31 IST

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah laid foundation stone to a slew of development works and inaugurated a few buildings in a few villages under his Varuna Assembly constituency, and also inaugurated the mini Vidhana Soudha at T Narsipur Assembly segment represented by District in-charge Minister Dr H C Mahadevappa, in the district on Thursday.

The CM hardly spent any time in these villages. It was whirlwind tour and it seemed that he was more interested in introducing his second son Dr Yatindra to the people of the villages. In most of the villages, he recalled his association with the villagers since 1977, when he was elected to the Taluk Board. He apologised for not visiting the villages since he became chief minister.

He assured to visit the villages leisurely in future. Introduced his son, sought cooperation of the people to Dr Yatindra, who is taking care of the Varuna constituency in the wake of his elder brother Rakesh, and proceeded to the next village.

In Mellahalli, the first village he visited around 12.30 pm, he laid foundation stone for concrete road works worth Rs 1.92 crore in the Nayaka Colony and road works inside the village being taken up at a cost of Rs 1 crore.

He said, Rs 20 lakh has been released for the community hall and more funds will be released if needed. He assured of providing a maternity hospital and a junior college to the village.

He laid the foundation stone for the building of the ITI at Kempegowdanahundi and inaugurated the hostel building of the Morarji Desai PU College at Varakodu.

He distributed cows to the beneficiaries from the University of Agricultural Sciences under SCP scheme at Megalapura and inaugurated a primary health centre at Rangasamudra

He also launched the repair works on the PHC and quarters of the hospital staffers and laid foundation stone for an operation theatre of the PHC and drainage works at Gargeshwari before proceeding towards T Narsipur.

Marigowda
Former ZP member K Marigowda, who is accused of harassing the then Deputy Commissioner C Shika, was seen getting close to the CM, once again.

It has to be recalled that the CM had disowned him by stating that he was just another Congress leader and he was not his aide. However, most of the local people’s representatives, government engineers of various departments were seen greeting him and pleasing him.

Even DySP Nagappa, who had come from far off Madikeri for security arrangements, was seen personally attending to him.

Security lapse
Most of the villagers were seen getting too close to the CM, breaching the security cover, and garlanding him. The police personnel were seen standing helplessly while the villagers pushed them aside and rushing towards the CM.
