Dasara extravaganza by Bengali associations

Soak in the bliss of Dasara celebrations by taking part in the grand cultural and religious extravaganza organised by Jagriti Bangiyo Cultural Association (JBCA), starting from Friday. 

The five-day colourful fest will start at 8 am on Friday at ITI Football Field near KR Puram with Durga puja. Followed this, children from Miracle Manna Children’s home will showcase their talent by singing, dancing, mimicry and other activities.  

The third edition of JBCA is special, say organisers. Suteertha Mitra, vice president of the JBCA, said, “In the wake of the Cauvery water crisis, we are celebrating the festival with an unique theme ‘Save water, Save India’. Hence, we have put up a Shiva idol with Ganga water flowing from his matted hair. This water flows and gets stored in kamandal (water pot) carried by Goddess Durga in one of her five left hands at the pandal.”

The organisers said that this time, the demon (Mahishasura) to be killed by Goddess Durga is going to be represented as drought to stress on the acute water shortage across the state and country. The organisers are expecting 5,000-6,000 visitors over the five days.

The programme will culminate on October 11. The events start at 8 am and go on till midnight on all the days. A community lunch has been organised from October 8-10 by JBCA. There is no entry fee for the event and the venue is ITI Football Field, next to KR Puram hanging bridge, Old Madras Road. Poorva Bangalore Cultural Association is also holding Durga puja and Dasara utsav at VSR Convention Hall, Brookefield, from Friday to October 11.
