A no objection certificate was issued on February 1 to Sri Krishna Enterprises, Bangalore to use explosives for quarrying to supply stones and other material required for the work on National Highway-4 being executed by Lanco Infratech. The villagers had submitted a petition seeking withdrawal of the NOC, detailing the problems they were put to due to use of explosives. Following this, Assistant Commissioner and senior Geologist conducted sport survey on March 5 and submitted a report opining that quarrying be stopped by temporarily withdrawing the NOC, the Deputy Commissioner has said in his order.

The NOC has been withdrawn in view of the fact that the firm has not followed the conditions laid down by Institute of Rock Mechanics, KGF, while carrying out explosions for quarrying, it said. It may be recalled that Deccan Herald had carried a report on quarrying adversely affecting the life in the nearby villages.

MLC Dr M P Mallanagouda Nadagowda had raised the issue in the Legislative Council on March 10.
