Vaibhavi grabs fine double

Athletics DAC Meet : Teen clinches gold in 800M and 1500M; Bhagwankripa wins

 Vaibhavi C bagged a fine double, triumphing in 800 metre and 1500 metres races in the under-15 category, to hog the limelight in the second leg of the Deccan Athletic Club’s weekend races, sponsored by Deccan Herald and Prajavani here on Sunday.

Vaibhavi of Soundarya High School clocked 2:33.8 in the 800 metres to clinch the gold here at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium. Priyanka C of New St Mary’s High School (2:35.5) and Pavitra of Sacred Heart High School (2:45.8) finished second and third.
Vaibhavi also emerged champion in the 1500 metres in a time of 5:29.4.

In the boys’ under-13 section, Deepak Kumar of Rashtriya Military School won gold in 80M hurdles (14.4) and triple jump (9.65M).

 Bhagwan Kripa M of Vidyaniketan school clocked 11.3 seconds to triumph in the boys’ U-16 100 metres. Nithin P (11.9) of Carmel School and Niranjan S (12.0) of St German High School came second and third spot respectively.

In the boys’ U-16 high jump event, Kevin Victor of Vidyaniketan produced an effort of 1.70 metres to win gold. Metropolitan Central School’s Sheik Sufiyan Ahmed (1.58M) and St Joseph’s Indian High School’s George Michael M (1.51M) clinched the silver and bronze medals respectively.
