Probe ordered into theft suspect's suicide bid

An enquiry was ordered in connection with an attempt to commit suicide by a 21-year-old habitual offender inside the toilet of Bommanahalli police station on Saturday night.

“Madivala sub-division ACP has been asked to conduct the enquiry and submit a report,” DCP (Southeast) Boralingaiah told DH. Ravi alias Chappar Ravi, a resident of Hosa Road, who attempted the suicide bid is stable and is being treated at St John’s Hospital, he said.

The police had detained Ravi in connection with a robbery and had brought him to the police station for enquiry. He went inside the toilet to relieve himself around 7.30 pm,  where he closed the door from inside, used a match box and set his clothes on fire.

The police grew suspicious after smoke emanated from inside the toilet. The police broke open the door and shifted him to the hospital. Ravi is involved in five theft cases. The police have booked him for committing suicide, said the police inspector.
