Kodagu Muslim Hitarakshana Vedike president P A Haneef on Monday demanded the authorities concerned that Udupi and Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje be booked for making provocative statement during her recent visit to Kodagu district.

Adressing media on Monday here, Haneef said that Karandlaje’s statement blaming particular community for burning of Qur’an at a mosque in Igoor to create disharmony in the district, was provocative.

Haneef demanded the authorities to hand over the cases of burning Qur’an and bid to torch the car of RSS leader K K Padmanabha to criminal investigation department (CID) and arrest the miscreants behind the same at the earliest.

Even several days after the incidents, the police are yet to achieve any breakthrough in both the cases. Some leaders are out to derive political mileage, which does not augur well in the interest of the district. The elected representatives should cooperate in restoring peace in the region, he urged.

The police have served notices on those leaders who took part in the protest against the incident of burning of the religious scripture, said vedike secretary D I Aijaz Ahmed.

He charged MLC Veena Achaiah for not making any courtesy visits.

Vedike vice-president Roshan Khan, organising secretary A A Shafique were present.
