Builder razes wall; residents cry foul

Tense situation prevailed for a while at Ramaiah Garden Layout in JP Nagar after a compound on a private plot at the layout was demolished by a builder on Monday.

An apartment has been constructed by Mahaveer Builders adjacent to Ramaiah Garden Layout. The builders had to lay a road to the apartment as per the agreement with the flat owners. The builder requested the layout residents to demolish the compound as it was constructed on the land meant for the road. However, the residents did not demolish the compound as it was constructed on private land, said the police.

A group of around 10 persons demolished the compound on Monday. They even had an argument with the residents of the layout.

In the complaint, Shivashankar, a resident of Ramaiah Garden, alleged that associates of Praveen Reddy of Mahaveer Builders demolished the compound wall. They misbehaved with the women and threatened some residents of the layout, with dire consequences.

In a counter complaint, Reddy said that as per the BBMP records, the compound was constructed on the land meant for the road. There was no response from the residents despite repeated requests to demolish the compound.

The police have directed both the parties to furnish documents related to the land.
