"We have developed a less-than-a-minute TV commercial with Akshay Kumar to convey our message for tax compliance," a senior CBEC official said adding that the actor was the top taxpayer of Bollywood.
The CBEC, which is responsible for collection of customs, central excise and service tax, plans to release the advertisement in the next fiscal depending upon the availability of funds, the official added.
"We generally engage celebrities for reaching out to the people as they have more impact on the masses. Prior to Akshay, we had sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan in a different commercial for the CBEC," the official said.
Film star Akshay Kumar became the highest taxpayer edging past others in Bollywood by dishing out Rs 4.5 crore for the December quarter in the current financial year. He occupied 25th position among the 500 top tax payers of the country.
