Spotlight on memories

Last Updated 18 May 2017, 18:59 IST

Actor Reema Lagoo is remembered for playing the typical Indian mother in blockbusters like ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!’ and ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’. The Bollywood fraternity remembers Reema as a warm-hearted and cheerful person and her sudden demise has left a void. A few friends share their thoughts with Metrolife.

Juhi Chawla, Actor

“It’s really shocking to know that she’s not with us anymore. I met her just a few weeks ago at an award function. She was one of the most beautiful people I knew. I personally think she was really pretty, with her light eyes and lovely features. We worked together in ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’ and many other films. But my most vivid memory of her is when we worked together for ‘Yes Boss’. She was the ideal mother figure and a Sooraj Barjatya movie was incomplete without her.”

Sameer Soni, Actor

“I knew Reema to be a very amicable person. She always played the eternal mother figure in Bollywood films and several television series. She had these gentle motherly instincts about her. But it is sad that people are remembered only when they are no more and not given as much recognition when they are alive.”

Rohit Roy, Actor

“Reemaji played my mother in the film ‘Jazbaat’ and my very first shot was with her. She was definitely
the sweetest co-actor one could hope to work with, specially in their first outing as an actor. She once told me that my rawness is my strength and I should not try to act as if I know it all. You will forever be in our hearts.”

Resul Pookutty
Sound designer and editor

“I’d known Reema from very close quarters and we had common friends as well. She was such a sweet person. As an actor, she broke the stereotype of a mother’s character. She was, for us, the new-age mother. She is remembered for her exceptional performance in television series ‘Shrimaan Shrimati’ and ‘Tu Tu Main Main’.”
