Hand over encroachment cases to spl court: Panel convener

Last Updated 10 December 2016, 19:56 IST

The anti-land grab action committee on Saturday said the government had not handed over cases pertaining to encroachment of government lands to a special court.

Convener of the committee A T Ramaswamy told reporters that the court had been set up for the speedy trial of land-grabbing cases.

The government should take the issue of encroachment seriously and extend all co-operation to the court to conduct speedy trial, Ramaswamy said.

He said Assembly speaker K B Koliwad should resign from the post of chairman of the committee probing encroachment of lakes in Bengaluru Urban and Bengaluru Rural districts. It is not proper for the presiding officer of the Assembly to head such an important committee, Ramaswamy said.

He said the government should implement recommendations made by an Assembly committee that went into irregularities in the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor project.
