The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike may not have heard your garbage woes but here is a city-based think tank which will take note of door-to-door waste collection and help solve problems related to it.

Public Affairs Centre (PAC) has undertaken a ‘Research to Action’ study to ensure efficient collection of garbage in the city. It has developed a mobile platform ‘PAC Waste Tracker’ to capture experiences of citizens during garbage collection.

The study is based on participatory sensing where volunteers fill in an online questionnaire regarding their onsite observation experience during the process of garbage collection.

The PAC Waste Tracker app version was pilot tested in six wards of Vignananagar, Azadnagar, Rajajinagar, A Narayanapura and Prakashnagar in collaboration with PAC’s field partner Society for People’s Action for Development (SPAD). The app comprises various socio-economic and development parameters.

The data will be made available to the corporator, ward engineers and health inspector who can act on complaints or shortcomings in garbage collection mechanism, said a PAC executive. More details on PAC Waste Tracker can be found at www.pacwastetracker.org. The app can be downloaded by Android users from Google Play Store.
