The Loading and Unloading Labourers' Union, Karnataka Food and Civil Supplies Corporation (KFCSC) on Monday threatened to go on indefinite hunger strike, if the government did not provide provident fund benefits for contract workers at 193 KFCSC godowns across the state.

Addressing a press meet, G R Shivashankar, president of the union, said as many as 2,250 workers in the KFCSC godowns were deprived of PF benefits since 2004.

"We are fighting for the last 10 years. Some months ago, Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) directed KFCSC to release Rs 26.74 crore and clear PF dues. But nothing has been done. The workers are also not getting other benefits such as ESI and gratuity” he added.

The union also urged the government to scrap its proposal to issue coupons and give Rs 800 every month to BPL families under Anna Bhagya scheme.
