Karnataka Planning Board deputy chairman and former Union minister C M Ibrahim has been accused of forcefully having his daughter Ifa’s foetus aborted. She was rushed to  Vikram Hospital in a critical condition on Monday with an ‘incomplete abortion.’

On Tuesday, Ifa's father-in-law C M Khader, who is Ibrahim’s brother said that Ibrahim had a role in the woman’s abortion. Ibrahim is believed to have given her a juice laced with medicine that could cause miscarriage.

Khader said Ibrahim’s son Faiz and another daughter Shabeena had force-fed the drink to Ifa. “They got a glass of sweet lime for her. Ifa complained that it was bitter. They managed to convince her that it was because the peel might have mixed with the pulp.

She had one-and-a-half glasses of it after which she complained of abdominal pain. I am convinced that her siblings have done that on the direction of their mother Shahila, Ibrahim’s wife,” said Khader.

Ifa’s in-laws claimed that Faiz was against his sister’s marriage to Khader’s son as he wanted to her to marry someone who matched their economic status. However, Ifa went against the family and opted for a registered marriage with Khader’s son. “Ibrahim’s family had opposed the affair and was against their relationship. To take revenge, they have tried to abort the foetus. I will lodge a complaint against him,” Khader said.

However, no complaint has been filed with the police so far. According to sources in the hospital, Ifa who was 15-weeks pregnant was brought by members of her family to Vikram Hospital at 9.20 pm on Monday, with profuse vaginal bleeding. It was diagnosed to be “incomplete abortion of unknown cause.”

She was posted for an emergency evacuation procedure under anaesthesia to safeguard her life. Ifa, her mother and sister had given their consent for the procedure. The situation did not mandate to wait for the husband’s consent. Now her condition is stable and she is recovering in the ICU, hospital sources said. Meanwhile, Ibrahim said he was no way connected with the incident.
