Prizes

The top three scorers were felicitated with trophies, medals and cash prize in the order of Rs 3,000, Rs 2,000 and Rs 1,000.

Pradyumna and Pannaga duo told DH that they were well prepared, besides participating in similar contests elsewhere. “On Friday, we had finished third in ‘Travel  Quest’, an inter-school quiz contest organised by Thomas Cook in Tamil Nadu,” they said.

The Prajavani Quiz Championship was conducted in two rounds; preliminary and final.
The preliminary round included 20 questions in written format. Among them, 12 students split into six teams qualified to the final round.

Quite interestingly, most of the questions in preliminary round were related to coastal districts. Some of them included - location of world’s 2nd tallest Shiva statue (Murudeshwara), Bollywood actress born in 1973 from Mangaluru (Aishwarya Rai), oldest national bank founded by Khan Bahadur Haji Abdullah Haji Kasim Saheb Bahadur in Udupi (Corporation Bank), cow’s ear (Gokarna), mud lake (Manipal), cricketer from Mangaluru who scored six sixes to equal the record of Sir Garry Sobers (Ravi Shastri), etc.

Final

The final round included a round on questions, pass on and buzzer round with the wrong answer getting negative marks of five.

Not to disappoint other students and also teachers, questions were asked and the winners were felicitated with prizes.

As many as 380 students (190 teams having two students in each) from 65 schools from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts had enrolled for the championship.

Badriya PU College Principal Dr N Ismail and Bhuvaneshwari Hegde from University College, Hampankatta, distributed the prizes.

Raghav Chakravarthy from Walnut Knowledge Solutions, Bengaluru, was the quiz master, with technical assistance by Arvind.

The Prajavani (a sister concern of DH) Quiz Championship, in its third year, has already conducted the contests in Mysuru and Hassan.
