Home Minister G Parameshwara on Thursday said a senior police officer is investigating the suicide of Abhishek, the Final year BCom student at Jagadguru Chandrashekar Bharathi Memorial (JCBM) College, following a clash between NSUI and ABVP activists at Sringeri.

He told reporters that the investigation will bring out the truth and action will be taken against wrongdoers.

Pay panel for police

Parameshwara said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had said that the state government would constitute a pay commission for revision of salary of police personnel. It would take at least two to three months to constitute the commission and it would examine the salary structure of the policemen, he said.

On police personnel failing to get special allowance of Rs 2,000 with effect from January 1, the minister said he had ordered to pay special allowance from January 1 itself. But it was delayed in the Finance Department. It would be cleared shortly. The special allowance would be a part of the salary of police personnel from February. The monthly uniform allowances has been hiked to Rs 500 from Rs 1000, conveyance allowances go up to Rs 600, and risk allowances to Rs 1,000. Earlier, there was no conveyance and risk allowances for policemen up to the rank of sub-inspectors, he said.

Assault cases

Regarding the associates of MLA Raju Kage assaulting Vivek Shetty and his mother and MP Anant Kumar Hegde, who has been absconding after assaulting doctors at Sirsi, the minister said that the police have been looking for them.

An FIR has already been registered against them. “All those who violate the laws will not be spared,” he said.
