Homegrown auto major Tata Motors on Wednesday launched its much-awaited sports utility vehicle, Hexa, at a starting price of Rs 12.08 lakh (ex-showroom, Maharashtra).

The top-end automatic version of Hexa has been priced at Rs 17.43 lakh, and will compete with the likes of the Mahindra XUV 500 and Toyota Innova Crysta.

The car is based on Tata Motors’ Impact Design philosophy using elements created across Tata Motors design studios in the United Kingdom, Italy and India. It was developed over 24 months with 150 engineers and international suppliers. The car has already completed a 1.7-million km of testing.

The Hexa comes with a warranty policy of three years or one lakh km, whichever is earlier. “The pre-bookings have exceeded our expectations, and we will ensure that customers will not have to wait for long before the car is delivered to them,” Tata Motors Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Guenter Butschek said.

“The current waiting period will be around eight weeks, and we will be constantly ramping up our capacity in order to ensure reduced waiting time,” Butschek added.
