Playing the blame game

Last Updated 21 March 2010, 20:04 IST

A day after former CM and External Affairs Minister S M Krishna claimed that Bangalore had attracted the attention of the world during his tenure as the CM, BJP leader and MP Ananth Kumar pooh-poohed him saying that “He who promised to make Bangalore a Singapore, ran away from the State after losing power.”

“If Krishna was so concerned about Bangalore, he should have contested the election again from Chamarajpet and represented the city in the State Assembly. Instead, he migrated to other State,” the BJP leader alleged at a media conference on Sunday.

Transport Minister R Ashok blamed Krishna for the traffic congestion in Bangalore. “Krishna lacked vision. He did not plan long term projects like Signal-free corridors to solve the problem. Had he taken these steps, the city would not have witnessed such a mess now,” he alleged. Ashok claimed that the BJP Government has prepared a vision document and is investing Rs 22,000 crore for Bangalore development.

Separate Act

The Agenda for Bangalore Infrastructure and Development Task Force has made a recommendation to the State Government to enact a separate legislation to govern the BBMP area, on the lines of KMC Act, Ananth Kumar, who is also a member of ABIDe, said.

If enacted, all the city utility providers, including BMRCL, BBMP, BWSSB and BMTC will come under one umbrella. Besides, there will be single planning authority. This will help the Government to deliver better services to citizen, he added.
