The injured are Suresh (40), a school van driver and Vishwanath (40), a plywood industry employee. Police said the duo were returning home after attending a marriage when a group stopped them at Kummel near Nettarakere and assaulted with lethal weapons. Both suffered serious head and body injuries and have been admitted to ICU of a private hospital. Both are not in a condition to speak.

However, Jayanthi, wife of Vishwanth, speaking to Deccan Herald in the hospital, said that she learnt about the incident only on Tuesday morning. She said that the duo were never involved in any quarrels.

Meanwhile, Bantwal police have arrested three persons and detained a few others in connection with assault. The arrested are Imtiyaz, Ashraf and Sameer. All the three are said to be relatives of advocate Shameem, one of the three persons injured during the May 17 attack. Police have beefed up security in the vicinity
