BSNL cuts 3G rates; now Rs 36 per GB

Last Updated 05 February 2017, 19:44 IST

The BSNL on Sunday slashed 3G mobile internet rates by about three-fourth, bringing the cost down to Rs 36 for every GB of data under a special pack.
The move is to counter the threat from Reliance Jio.

“The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has decided to offer up to four times extra data on existing data Special Tariff Vouchers available in the market,” BSNL said in a statement.

Under the Rs 291 plan, a customer will get 8 GB of data with a validity of 28 days, as against 2 GB that the same offer provided earlier. The Rs 78 plan will offer double data at 2 GB.

The statement said that the state-run telecom firm will now be offering one of the lowest rates in the industry.

Reliance Jio is offering free 4G service till March 31, 2017, under which customers get 1 GB of 4G broadband everyday.

Other private operators have brought down the cost of per GB data to as low as Rs 50.
