Mahouts call off stir temporarily

The mahouts had staged protest by sending the 16 tamed elephants to the forest. Realising the gravity of the proble, Madikeri division DCF B B Mallesh visited the mahouts and Kavadis and held talks with them.

He assured to take a decision to regularise the service of 32 mahouts and kavadis serving in Dubare elephant camp at a meeting on June 10 at Bangalore. The protest was lead by Jilla Budakattu Krishikara Sangha.

Speakinng on the occasion, Jilla Budakattu Krishikara Sangha President J P Raju said if the government fails to regularise the service of mahouts by July 2, they will stage protest by tieing all the elephants in front of Kushalnagar RFO office.

ACF M Shashidhar, RFO M S Chinnappa, ZP former member R K Chandru, Dubare girijana hadi leader J K Dobi and others took part in the meeting.
