Days before the civic polls in Mumbai, the Bombay High Court on Thursday asked the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to remove all hoardings, banners and advertisements that were put up illegally.

The court has also ordered action against those who put it up.

The directive was issued by a division bench headed by Justice A S Oka during the hearing of a public interest litigation filed by NGO Janhit Manch, which pointed out that posters, banners and hoardings put up illegally are defacing public and private property and are against the rules and the law.

“All hoardings, posters, banners, skysigns and advertisements put up by the parties and their members without the permission licence number and the duration period on them shall be removed forthwith by the civic body on 21 February,” Justice Oka said.
