Three arrested for doing wheelies

The Cubbon Park traffic police arrested three people who were indulging in bike stunts around Queen's Circle to impress their peers and girlfriends by posting the footage on social networking sites.

The bike, a car and a mobile used for videographing the wheelie stunts were also seized.

The arrested have been identified as Naveen Channegowda (25), an ITI student and a resident of Shivanagar in Rajajinagar, who rode a Yamaha bike, Abhishek Mayigowda (26), a native of Channarayapatna in Hassan district and a resident of Jogupalya in Halasuru. He was driving the car with Naveen Vishwanath (32), a building contractor from Manjunathanagar in Bengaluru, who was sitting in the car shooting the wheelie with a mobile phone camera, the police said.

The arrests were based on photographs forwarded to the police by an alert citizen. The trio were performing the stunts in full public glare on the night of February 11 even as vehicles were plying on the roads.

Naveen did not have a driver’s licence and had also modified the silencer and replaced the bike's handle bars to facilitate wheelies, the police said. All the three have been booked under several sections under IPC and Indian Motor Vehicle Act, 1988.
