Convicts on bail among four held while trying to commit dacoity

The police arrested four persons while they were trying to commit a dacoity near Yelahanka in the early hours of Monday.

Police sources suspect they had a role in the attempt to murder Dasanapura APMC president, Kadabagere Srinivas. The arrested are Mohan Kumar alias Double Meter Mohan, Nagaraj alias Wilson Garden Naga, Raju and Basavaraju. The police have seized a country-made pistol and six rounds of live bullets, two cars, a dagger, two black jerkins, one helmet, one wooden log, a pair of shoes and a bag. The hunt is on to nab the other absconding persons.

“Based on credible information, a police team went to Judicial Layout parallel road and found 12 persons in three cars. When we approached them, they tried to flee in their vehicles. We managed to nab four persons while eight of them fled with one car. When we searched the two cars, we found weapons and other items,” said Hemanth Nimbalkar, additional commissioner of police (East).During investigations, it was learnt that they had brought the pistol from Kalaburagi to carry out a murder in the city, said Nimbalkar.

“Mohan and Nagaraj were serving jail terms in Parappana Agrahara Central prison for murder. The duo picked a fight with another history-sheeter Manikanta alias Mani, brother of slain rowdy Kavala alias Vijay Kumar. Prison officials sensed that the rival gangs were hatching a plan to attack each other. Mohan was shifted to Dharwad jail while Mani was sent to Ballari jail.” Mani, sitting in Ballari jail, planned and carried out an attack on Mohan with the help of his associates in Dharwad jail. But Mohan managed to escape unhurt. Meanwhile, Mohan and Nagaraj were released on bail, said the police.

The duo learnt that Mani will be produced in a local court in the city and decided to kill him. They needed money and manpower. Mohan and Nagaraj roped in their friends and decided to commit dacoity to get money, added the police.

Mohan and Nagaraj are close associates of history sheeters Sunil alias Silent Sunil and Rohith alias Onte. Mohan is accused in three murder cases while Nagaraj is accused in four murder, one kidnap and 11 robbery, assault and dacoity cases, the police said.

Attack on APMC chief

Another senior police officer said, “We are investigating to see if they are involved in the attempt to murder Kadabgere Srinivas. For now, nothing can be confirmed. The arrested persons are being questioned and the bullets and pistol have been sent for examination to check if the same weapon was used in the attempt to murder.”
