Two held for hunting deer; 3 absconding

Forest officials arrested two persons who were trying to flee after hunting two deer near the Kodihalli forest range near Kanakapura on Sunday night.

Forest officials said the arrested are Nandish, a resident of Venkatapura, and Suresh, a resident of Kanakapura. The officials have recovered a car, a country-made pistol, ammunition and meat of two wild animals. Munishetty, Basava and Raju, all natives of Kanakapura, fled the spot.

A senior forest officer said, “On Sunday night, we received information that a group of five persons had ventured into the forest for hunting. We alerted the staff, who started combing the area and checked vehicles near neighbouring villages. A car was stopped near Ramadevarabetta near Chikkondanahalli. Five persons were in the car. As soon as they saw the forest officials, three of them took to their heels. Nandish and Suresh who were in the car were questioned. They confessed to having gone for hunting. When the car was checked, animal meat was found.”

“They were arrested and the meat, which was sent for examination, was said to be that of two deer. They had entered the forest and hunted two deer, which is illegal. They were arrested and efforts are on to nab the three who are absconding,” added the officer.
