Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar on Sunday announced that he has become a father to twins — a boy and a girl — through surrogacy.

Karan (44), the son of legendary filmmaker Yash Johar and Hiroo Johar, made the announcement on social media, and introduced the children as Yash and Roohi.

The babies were born in Mumbai’s Masrani Hospital on February 7, and the births were registered with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation on Friday.

Karan, in his recently released autobiography The Unsuitable Boy, had said that he wanted to either adopt or have a child through surrogacy. In the book, he has also dealt with his sexual orientation.

“I am ecstatic to share with you all the two most wonderful additions to my life, my children and lifelines; Roohi and Yash. I feel enormously blessed to be a parent to these pieces of my heart who were welcomed into this world with the help of the marvels of medical science,” Karan tweeted on Sunday.

“I am eternally grateful to the surrogate who has fulfilled my lifelong dream and provided a warm, loving and nurturing environment to my children before bringing them into this world. She will always remain in my prayers,” he said.
