Law Minister T B Jayachandra has directed authorities to complete the work on Upper Bhadra project at the earliest.

He was speaking after inspecting the work on a tunnel of Upper Bhadra project at Ajjampura on Saturday. Of the 6.9-km long tunnel, 5-km work has been completed. In spite of working round the clock, one-metre work can be completed in a day as per the engineer. The work on tunnel should be completed by June. All the works to supply water to Chitradurga should be completed by December-end.

The work has not begun on the project in Tumakuru. The land has been acquired for the purpose. There is no shortage of fund to be distributed among those whose land has been acquired, he clarified.

The minister said that the MLA of the region has been demanding taluk status for Ajjampura. “We have discussed on it. I am not sure if it would be announced in the budget. It is left to the Chief Minister to decide,” he said.

Stating that Tarikere and Kadur taluks did not have irrigation facilities in the past, he said that after the Upper Bhadra project was implemented, the taluks have been provided with irrigation facilities. Water has been supplied to 80 lakes even before the project was completed.

“The ‘Modi magic’ will not work in the next Assembly election in Karnataka. The BJP will not win Assembly polls in Karnataka. The Congress will remain in power in the state,” he said.
