Coffee plants in full bloom in Somwarpet

Last Updated 26 March 2017, 18:25 IST
Timely rains have helped coffee plants blossom in the Somwarpet area. Flowers have bloomed in the plantations, which is only instilling hope among growers. The showers in the area 10 days ago proved favourable for the blooming of coffee flowers. The flowers blooming in the months of March and April indicates good crops. There hasn’t been good yield in the last three to four years, due to inadequate rains.

Growers in Gowdalli, Doddamalthe, Nerugalale, Gonimarooru, Gopalapura, Byadagotta and Dundalli offered prayers at their coffee plantations. The Arabica coffee species is grown on the vast stretches of the taluk.

Coffee grower Ramesh said that this time the rain has been timely, which was favourable for the blooming of coffee flowers. In some parts, coffee flowers have bloomed twice as there was rains during January and March. If the climate is favourable, growers can expect a good yield, this season.
