The Supreme Court has asked the BDA to furnish a layout map as the government agency challenged the High Court of Karnataka’s ruling to quash acquisition of land for forming a housing colony on 20 acres of land in Sajjepalya on Magadi Main Road.

A bench of Justices Madan B Lokur and Deepak Gupta asked the BDA, represented by advocate S K Kulkarni and others, to file an appropriate copy of the map within two weeks. The court put the BDA’s appeal against the high court order of January 5, 2017, for consideration on April 28.

Senior advocates Jayant Bhushan and Basava Prabhu Patil, appearing for landowners, defended the high court ruling, saying the BDA had acquired 225 acres of land but dropped a major portion of it subsequently. Initially, it was proposed to acquire 225 acres of land. In the final notification, only 160 acres of land was notified. But the award was passed in respect of 98 acres of land. Afterwards a notification was issued under the Land Acquisition Act to release 82 acres of land.
