Acting swiftly, a Hoysala patrol team caught a 20-year-old BCom student while he and two of his associates were trying to rob a software engineer at Kundalahalli Gate in the wee hours of Thursday.

Fifty-five-year-old assistant sub-inspector Muneyya sustained minor injuries when one of the suspects slashed him with a knife in a bid to escape.

One of the suspect Deekshith is a BCom student from a city college and a resident of Srinagar. He and his associates, probably dropouts, targeted a software engineer while he was returning home after his night shift on his motorcycle. Deekshith stopped the bike on the pretext of seeking a lift, while the other two started attacking him.

While the trio started beating him up to rob him of his valuables, a passerby noticed the incident and alerted the police control room who in turn passed on the information to Hoysala No 201 attached to HAL.
ASI Muneyya and his driver Parasappa Majige (30) who were on duty, rushed to the spot and caught the trio while they were trying to rob the victim.

In the melee, one of them slashed Muneyya with a knife and managed to escape with his friend. However, Muneyya and Parasappa managed to catch Deekshith. He was taken into custody for further questioning to ascertain his criminal antecedents while efforts are on to nab the other two.
