Dressing for work is no longer defined by the button-down shirt and boring black trousers.
Add some pizzazz to your work attire. Let your personality reflect in the way you dress for work.

Whether your job demands you to be in sober formals or trendy semi-casuals, adding some personality to your ensemble is the easiest way to stand apart from a crowd.

Be comfortable
If the shirt is too snug, don’t wear it. If the collar is stifling, avoid it. If the kitten heels make your toes hurt, throw them out.

Just promise yourself to never put up with uncomfortable clothing. You will only be able to function at your best if you feel relaxed in what you’re wearing.

I’m not advocating, tie-dye tees with genie pants off course, but there is a point to comfort fit formals!

During the summer months, choose natural fabrics. Suffering in polyester bottoms from March through September is an age-old mistake. Your pants need to let you breathe.

So avoid fitted silhouettes, and over tightened waistbands. Cinching a figure is a marvellous fashion tip, but not at the expense of you having to suck your stomach in for six hours a day.

‘Loose’ is the style statement of the confident. Notice that the intellectual fashionista will almost always dress for comfort. Remember, if your body is relaxed, your mind will be free to think.

‘Colour’ and ‘Office wear’ don’t need to be antonyms
Let’s break this myth that if you want to come across as ‘professional’, the colour palette to choose from is limited to black, greys, dark blues, browns and nude.

Choosing warmer or cooler colours to compliment a neutral colour will work to refresh the eyes each morning.

Wearing a nice pleasant colour to work not only lifts your spirits, it will bring you to the notice of those around you. Don’t be too playful with colours, a wrong hue could end up making you stick out like a sore thumb.

Neons, and big prints are definitely something one should avoid wearing to work. Ethnic wear usually gives us a fair share of colours to choose from. Now, it’s time to watch out for the same colour trends in Western wear.

Love your feet
Your feet are your most important weapon at work, and yet they are the most ignored. If your footwear isn’t comfortable enough to run around in, then they aren’t really suitable for the workplace.

Unless you are a super model, in which case your job requires you to sport heels, high heels in the workplace is a reality only on TV.

The truth is if you are one of those, ‘anything for fashion’ kinda gals who’ll sport heels to work, you’re also the one with bleeding toes and cons on the bottom of your feet.

Chances are, you are already slower at your job, you will have a back problem in a couple of years and your feet will never look the same in bathroom slippers again! Spare them the pain, and choose wisely for your next pair of work heels.

Wedges, block heels, flat sandals are all comfortable alternatives to kitten heels, stilettos or pumps.
