A medical yogi who treats diseases through yogic postures and dance performance for health awareness are some of the highlights of the country’s first unique health festival set to begin in the city on Thursday, May 4. The festival will be held till May 7 at Tripuravasini, Palace Grounds.

Bangalore Health Festival is a one-of-its-kind event that will bring together medical experts, doctors, hospitals, yoga experts, counsellors and medical professionals to engage with the public to enlighten them.

The festival aims to strike a meaningful dialogue between the medical field and the common man to change the perception of the profession.

From street plays and dance performances to medical conferences and panel discussions chaired by the best in the field, the festival promises to be a riot of information and entertainment.

“There is a lot of misconception about the healthcare industry. People feel healthcare is a business that aims at ripping the common man of his money. But the fact is that he is not paying even a fraction of the cost of the research that took to develop these medicines or the machines that conduct tests. We want to bring these facts out in the open for people to see and understand,” said Deepak Thimaya, event organiser.

“We want people to question so that we can answer them and clear misconceptions. The festival is a powerful platform to debate and interact. We will also have free health check-ups ranging from breast cancer to diabetes,” said Thimaya.

“The medical field is mostly looked at as a business to business (B2B) profession, but we are making an effort to transform it into a business to consumer (B2C) profession through the festival,” he said.

Some highlights of the festival are a dialogue between the allopathic practitioners and traditional medicine practitioners, along with discussions on topics like ‘future of medicine,’ ‘doctor-patient relationship’ and ‘healthcare for all’.

Dr Devi Shetty, founder of Narayana Health, and Roop Gursahani, celebrated neurologist, are some of the eminent speakers participating.
