Thousandwala: Bahubali sets new record, first Indian movie to net Rs 1000 cr

Film maker SS Rajamouli’s 'Bahubali 2: The conclusion' has a set a new record in Indian cinema. It has collected Rs 1000 crore in Indian and overseas markets combined in just ten days, therefore becoming the highest grossing Indian movie ever.

Arka Media, the producers of the movie, made an announcement here on Sunday that the magnum opus had indeed achieved this rare feat. Trade tracker Ramesh Bala also confirmed the record through his tweet that Bahubali 2 had collected Rs 800 cr in Indian and Rs 200 cr in the overseas market.

Trade wings forecast that the film could break yet another record by crossing Rs 1500 cr collection if the current trend at the box offices continue for another week or so.

“To all my fans, a big hug to each one of you for all the love that you'll have showered on me. I have tried my best to go through a lot of the efforts that you all have put to express your affection for me from different parts of India and even overseas. I am truly overwhelmed with everything. The journey of Baahubali has been a long one but among the few things that I will take away from this, is all of you. A big thank you to Rajamouli sir for believing in me to carry his huge vision to the masses, giving me a once-in-a-lifetime character of Bahubali and making the entire journey so special,” Prabhas said on his Facebook page after the new record was set.

Part one of the Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka, Tamannah, and Sathya Raj  starrer Bahubali the beginning had collected Rs 650 crore in the domestic market and Rs 180 crore in the overseas market. While part one concentrated more on introduction of main characters and battle scenes, the conclusion is loaded with visual effects touching upon the emotional side of the characters.

Creation of new records started with the release of trailer of Bahubali 2. More than a crore people watched the trailer within 24 hours of its release making the Bahubali trailer the seventh most watched trailer on YouTube. Similarly the movie was released in 8000 screens all over the world (6500 in India) and 80% of screens in both the Telugu states.
