Millions lost in piracy

Piracy cost the Indian film industry 959 million dollars (nearly 4500 crores of rupees) and about five lakh and 71 thousand jobs.
Research has shown that online piracy of TV and film network is mainly through file sharing network.

Says a source, “For example, Vishal Bhardwaj’s Kaminey was downloaded a record number of times (estimated at 350000 times), in India and abroad. The situation is equally bad for regional language films, with 88 per cent of Telugu and 80 per cent of Tamil films being downloaded from the Internet.”
