Justice Karnan left TN guest house without paying bill

Controversial Justice C S Karnan of the Calcutta High Court, who questioned the judiciary and was sentenced six months jail term by the Supreme Court for contempt, left the State Guest House in the city where he was staying since Tuesday.

Justice Karnan, who arrived Chennai on Tuesday and was staying in the State Guest House at Chepauk in the city, left the room in the morning.

Though Sources from the State Guest House said that Justice Karnan left for Srikalahasti temple, which is located in Andhra Pradesh, another sources from police side also told that the justice had left to his native Virudhachalam in Cuddalore district.

However, Justice Karnan, who came along with two lawyers, did not vacate his room officially till now. “The room bill is yet to be settled by”, a staff from the guest house said seeking anonymity.

Meanwhile, a four-member police team from Kolkata arrived Chennai airport to arrest Justice Karnan with the help of Tamil Nadu authorities following apex court's direction that the Director General of West Bengal Police to constitute a team for the implementation of its order “forthwith”.

Accordingly, the Kolkata police is expected to meet Chennai police Commissioner before proceeding to arrest Justice Karnan.

Taking note of his past controversial judgement and orders passed despite being stripped of judicial activities, the Supreme Court has restrained the media from reporting his statements in the future.

On Tuesday morning, Supreme Court held Justice Karnan guilty of contempt of court, judiciary and judicial process and sentenced him to six months imprisonment.
