MLA Dr K Sudhakar said youths should try and acquire skills for better future in the era of competition. He was speaking after inaugurating an enrolment drive for skill training for youths organised by the Department of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood, district administration and Zilla Panchayat here.

Sudhakar said, “Youths constitute 50% of the population in the country and the state. It is commonly believed that the countries, in which youths are more in number, are prosperous. But the reality in our country is different. Population is more here. The number of people which was just 35 crore at the time of independence has reached 120 crore now. Accordingly, the demand for basic facilities has grown manifold. Our needs have also become more.”

“More Indians are woking in IT sector. Twenty lakh people are directly working in IT companies while the lives of another 20 lakh people are dependent on them. Global economic crisis affects all developed and developing countries, including India. There is always an insecurity about losing jobs,” he said.

Sudhakar said the government started the Department of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood with a view to impart skill training to youths in 2016. The department aims to empower and bring the children of farmers and youths to the mainstream of the society. Everyone should utilise the benefits of this programme. Today, even uneducated youngsters can get skill training and shape their lives well, he added.

He said the entrepreneurship policy of the state is very simple. The government should attract entrepreneurs by providing them land, tax rebate, water and electricity facilities on the lines of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, he felt.

Deputy Commissioner Deepthi Kanade said youths can register their names for training under skill development programme on www.kaushalkar.com or kaushalkar mobile app. Under the scheme, 504 kinds of trainings will be imparted. The companies which impart training will provide 70% jobs to youths, she said.

Zilla Panchayat chief executive officer J Manjunath said the government has started a separate department to lay stress on human resource development. “The job opportunities are more youths with skills. The youths, therefore, should utilise the benefits of this scheme,” he advised.

Zilla Panchayat president P N Keshav Reddy, CUDA chairman S M Muniyappa, Karnataka Khadi and Village Industries Corporation chairman Yaluvahalli N Ramesh, Taluk Panchayat president B M Ramaswamy, DCC Bank director Sriram Reddy, assistance commissioner Shivaswamy, tahsildar K Narasimhamurthy and district employment exchange officer M Prasad were present.
