She started her career as a model and worked her way up the ladder, from the finals of Pantaloons Femina India to doing various ads and print shoots.

Shamata Anchan was later seen in Ashutosh Gowariker’s television series ‘Everest’ as the main lead and is now lighting up the silver screen in ‘Bin Kuch Kahe’.

Shamata chats with Anila Kurian about her interesting journey so far.

It’s been an exciting journey for you so far...
Yes! I started off with modelling and came on the screen with advertisements. It’s been a gradual journey but it feels like the right one.

We hear that you have some international projects in the basket...
I can’t say much about that for now but I hope to make some interesting announcements soon.

Do you miss feeling anonymous though?
Not always but when I travel outside Mumbai, I am noticed more. It’s probably because Mumbai is filled with celebrities and people don’t care so much. It’s great to have that balance of being recognised and treated like a normal person.

An actor you enjoyed working with...
I worked with Rajat Kapoor in ‘Everest’ and he was amazing.

Someone you want to work with in the future... 
Ranbir Kapoor. He is one of my favourite actors; he is one of the most underrated actors in the industry. I loved him in ‘Tamaasha’.

A female actor you look up to...
Both Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra. They have built an empire for themselves and that’s amazing.

If you could trade lives with someone, who would it be? 
Priyanka Chopra. I want to know what her day is like and how she is always so
energetic.

If you could be a dish, which one would you choose to be?
I’d love to be a molten chocolate lava cake.  You don’t really know what to expect till you take a bite out of it.

Your fashion motto...
I’ve been following the ‘be free and casual’ motto lately. I’m wearing a lot of loose and breezy kind of clothing .

How are you spending your vacation?
I am just catching up with everyone and sleeping as much as I can.
