Rain likely for two more days

Thundershowers are expected to continue in the city for two more days, according to the Met department.

The city received 34.9 mm of rainfall till 8.30 pm on Saturday. On Friday, Bengaluru received 84.6 mm from 8.30 am to 8.30 pm.

About 50 trees came crashing down in Bommanahalli, Kodichikkannahalli, Bilekahalli, Konanakunte, Koramangala, Silk Board Junction, Vijayanagar, Chamarajpet, Ragi Gudda, Silk Board Junction, Basaveshwaranagar, Jayanagar, Rajajinagar and Dr Rajkumar Road.

Prahari teams were sent to these areas to clear trees from the roads and ensure smooth vehicular flow.

Two people — Sudha (25) and an unidentified bike rider — were injured as branches of trees fell on them. The two have been admitted to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital for treatment. Traffic snarls were reported from all major roads.Mayor G Padmavathi personally sat at the control room and monitored the responses.

She received complaints that Bescom and BWSSB staff were not attending to problems in many areas. She contacted Bengaluru Development Minister K J George and requested his intervention in redressing grievances of the public.BMRCL extended the service of its trains beyond 10 pm, following heavy rush of passengers between Nayandahalli and Baiyappanahalli.

India Meteorological Department officials said the maximum temperature recorded on Saturday was 30 degrees Celsius,  while on Friday it was 33.1 degrees Celsius, indicating a drop in temperature.

They said the humidity was high at 66%. The  officials said there is an upper air cyclonic circulation over Bay of Bengal. Because of this, many places over south interior Karnataka and isolated places over coastal Karnataka and north interior Karnataka are receiving rainfall, they added.
