Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has come under pressure from his Kuruba community representatives to get the scheduled tribe tag for Kurubas.
Representatives of Haalumathastha Mahasabha, a federation of the Kuruba community, submitted a memorandum to the chief minister on Sunday in Bengaluru.
Congress MLC H M Revanna, who belongs to the same community, told reporters that Kurubas in rural areas are socially and economically backward. At present, they fall under the category of Other Backward Classes. Siddaramaiah was requested to recommend to the Centre to bring the caste under the ST list.
