'Cong will scrap Cow Slaughter Act if elected'

Motamma asks CM to resign for administrative failure of the govt

Addressing a news conference on Wednesday, she said that an Act prohibiting slaughter of healthy cattle has been in force since many years and it is sufficient if this existing Act is implemented efficiently.

“State Government has brought in this Act only with the aim of appeasing a particular organisation. With this, the poor have lost a source of healthy, affordable food. Leather industry is also feeling the pinch,” she said.

She held poor way of functioning of Government responsible for the people opting to stay away from polls during BBMP election. She said that if Government brings in mandate on voting, Congress will back it.

Speaking about the attack on Bellary based businessman Tapal Ganesh, she said that people have lost faith on this Government.

“People of Bellary are literally experiencing hell. The State Government has no power to control atrocities. The CM is only making statements on Inquiry but he is not uttering a word about action against such a crime. It is better CM resigns and goes back home rather than expressing helplessness always,” she ridiculed.

She alleged the State Government of failing to provide homes to the flood victims of North Karnataka.

“Another rainy season is approaching but houses are not yet ready. If Matha Amruthanandamayi Math can build houses, why can’t the Government,” she questioned and added that Rs 1,945 crore has been provided by the centre for rehabilitation of flood victims of North Karnataka but State Government has set aside Rs 350 crore from the said fund for providing infrastructure in rehabilitated villages. “Provide proper shelter to the victims first,” she said.

“The Government should stop distributing funds to Maths and temples. Further, a guideline must be issued to all the religious centres, which have been given government funds as to how the funds must be spent,” she said.

District Congress President M L Murthy, Spokesperson A N Mahesh were present.
