BBMP official to file police complaint today over 'threat letter'

Last Updated 04 June 2017, 20:53 IST

BBMP Joint Commissioner Sarfaraz Khan was in for a shock on Saturday when he received a threat letter that asked him to refrain from “harassing” shopkeepers on Aga Abbas Ali Road in eastern Bengaluru or else he will be “eliminated”.

“I was in the office when I received this letter by post, which said that I will be finished,” he said. The letter, which Khan shared with DH, carries the address of BJP office, Bazaar Street, Halasuru.

It reads, “You have issued notices to all commercial offices on Aga Abbas Ali Road and the surrounding areas. Let them do their work peacefully, do not harass them. Don’t show your strength or you will be finished (death). We get complaint(s) from the public or go to Pakistan.”

Khan suspects miscreants and has decided to go to police on Monday. “I checked the sender’s address and it proved to be false. It must be some miscreant,” he said.

The BBMP recently issued notices to commercial establishments for poor handling of solid waste and warned of imposing heavy fines on those littering public places.
