Lateral entry for MBA in distance education

  Candidates with the above said qualifications can seek direct entry to second year MBA course offered under distance education mode.

Committee

The issue came for discussion at academic council meeting of Kuvempu University at Jnana Sahyadri campus in Shankaraghatta near here on Wednesday. Prof Made Gowda suggested to study the norms adopted by UGC, IGNOU and KSOU before going ahead with lateral entry scheme. Vice Chancellor Prof B S Sherigara announced to form a committee of Deans with Director of Distance Education as Convener to study the norms and workout modalities in this regard.

Course work

Research scholar pursuing PhD at Kuvempu University had urged to amend the rules and introduce course work in wake of announcement from UGC that PhDs with course work will only be considered as exemption from clearing NET. The meet decided to amend the statute facilitating the research scholars to opt for course work.

Grant

Vice Chancellor Prof B S Sherigar informed the meeting that UGC has accorded ‘colleges with potential for excellence’ status to Sahyadri Arts College, Sahyadri Science College and ATNCC. Board of Research in Nuclear Science has sanctioned Rs 18 lakh for major research project in Department of Industrial Chemistry. UGC also has sanctioned Rs 10.50 lakh for Dr Ambedkar Study Chair.

Kuvempu University will purchase six acre land along with 28 quarters building from KPC at Rs 1.5 crore cost. The staff quarters will be allotted to the employees of the university after renovation, he stated.

China delegation

Kuvempu University in association with Re-take organisation is planning to offer English, management and IT courses in China and depute teachers there.

A delegation from Re-take organisation of China visited Kuvempu University campus on March 27 to discuss the issue, he informed.

The meet also gave approval for the statute for establishment of Centre of Dr Ambedkar and Buddhist Studies.
