Fourteen years ago, Bun World came into existence at Malleswaram, thanks to Bhargavi Gopinath. For the sake of her children’s education, she migrated all the way from Hassan to Bangalore. Little did she know that one day, she would be setting up a place in Bangalore selling the best cakes.

Bhargavi’s brother-in-law, who had a bakery in South Bangalore then, offered to help her set her own bakery. Bhargavi completed a baking course from Bangalore University and after a year’s training at her brother-in-law’s bakery, she set out to lay the foundation for Bun World.

Initially, she only baked cakes. Slowly, she started making sandwiches, cookies, condiments and many other baked products.

Some of the famous desserts which Bun World offers are pineapple and butterscotch pastry; fudge cake, mousse cake, truffle, dry fruits and other fruit-filled pastries like strawberry, litchi, mango to name a few.

The cheese, paneer, mixed vegetable masala, mushroom and capsicum sandwiches are much-preferred by Bun World’s customers, and are sold instantly.

A lot of students from Seshadripuram College and MES College come and hang out here.
They simply love to gorge on the sandwiches and pastries. Also, they place orders for occasions like birthday, farewell and freshers’ parties.

Anjana, a student of MES College says, “My friends and I come here almost every other day after college. It is our famous adda. We spend around three hours here after college.
All of us love the chocolate pastry and we recently ordered a three-kg-cake for our seniors’ send-off party. All of them liked it and not a single morsel was left over. The icing on the cake is so good. It is neither sweet nor bland. It has a mixed combination that tastes amazing.”

Another productive thing that Bhargavi does is she gives the recipes to some housewives, who are good at cooking, and asks them to prepare some condiments according to these recipes.

This way, she is able to provide employment to some housewives. Salt and khara banana chips and mixtures are some of the condiments prepared by housewives. Bhargavi personally cooks and also spends around eight to nine hours everyday at Bun World’s kitchen.

Ratna H M, a housewife says, “I have been residing in this area for the past 20 years and from the time this place has started, I’ve been visiting it. The daily supply of bread and condiments to our house comes from here. I used to get my children also when it started.
Even today, they come here with their friends. The items available here are not over priced also.”
