A Bengaluru-based woman, who cheated several elderly people and was involved in chain snatching cases in the city, was on Wednesday arrested by the Tamil Nadu police.
Police said Asha Soundarya (37), hailing from Lingarajapuram in Bengaluru, escaped to Chennai on her two-wheeler a couple of months ago to evade arrest after committing several robberies.
Following a complaint from a senior citizen and acting on a tip-off, police detained Asha at T Nagar area in the city.
Initial investigation revealed that Asha, who was staying in a room in Arumbakkam area, was involved in chain snatching and robbing elderly people in busy areas like T Nagar, Kodambakkam and Nungambakkam, Chennai.
Police also recovered around 15 grams of gold jewellery from her.
Petty crimes
Investigation also revealed that soon after she lost her husband two years back in a road accident, Asha started indulging in petty crimes in Bengaluru till the local police threatened to book her under the Goonda Act.
Fearing arrest, Asha fled to Chennai and continued with her criminal activities. Asha was lodged in Puzhal prison.
