Select panel on pvt hospitals bill formed

 The Legislative Assembly secretariat on Thursday set up a 17-member joint select committee to examine the controversial bill that seeks to regulate private hospitals in the state.

The committee is headed by senior Congress MLA K N Rajanna. Health and Family Welfare Minister K R Ramesh Kumar, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra, leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council K S Eshwarappa and JD(S) leader in the Council Basavaraj Horatti are among the committee members. The committee has been given two months time to submit its report.

The Karnataka Private Medical Establishments (Amendment) Bill, 2017 seeks to fix rates for all treatments and, penalise hospitals for violations of any of its provisions. BJP and the JD(S), opposed the bill, saying that it will lead to harassment of medical doctors.
