With just three days to go for the roll out of the GST regime, the GSTN portal has completed all trials and testing successfully and is ready for take off, Chairman Navin Kumar said Tuesday.

With more than 66 lakh taxpayers already completing the enrolment process successfully, Kumar said he is highly confident of a smooth roll out of the new taxation system.

The GSTN portal has also started accepting registrations from new taxpayers from June 25 even as the process of migration of existing taxpayers is already on. The registration has also started for GST practitioners, Tax Deductors at Source (TDS) and e-commerce operators (TCS).

“GST IT system has undergone all mandatory tests and has been opened for new registrations and enrolments on June 25. We would like to assure everyone that the system is functioning smoothly. More than 66 lakh VAT, Service Tax & Central Excise taxpayers have already registered at the GST portal.

We are fully ready and all the tests including User Acceptance Testing and Beta testing have been completed successfully. We are fairly confident of the system and are expecting a hiccup free transition”, Kumar said.

“The Goods & Services Tax has been referred to as the most significant tax reform in India post independence. The new regime will usher in a common national market by doing away with a complex web of local and central taxes and incorporating them into a single levy,” he told reporters. The GST common portal will enable taxpayers to meet the GST compliance requirement like filing returns and making tax payments.
