BJP protests against 'inhuman behaviour' of Congress councillors

Last Updated 30 June 2017, 19:48 IST

The district BJP unit staged a protest on Friday against the alleged inhuman behaviour of Congress councillors in the City Municipal Council’s general body meeting held on Thursday.

Taking part in the protest held at Clock Tower, former MLA Raghupathy Bhat said under the district in-charge minister’s rule, the instability and collapse of law and order mechanism have become a common phenomenon. The police are treated as the puppets in the hands of Congress administrators.

A common man (Rony D’Mellow), who was ignorant about the rules of the CMC council meeting, entered the meeting and he was thrashed badly by the Congress councillors, who behaved in a tyrannical way. Udupi CMC is known for its sanctity and the BJP rule previously has brought a dignified image to the civic body.  The democratic set-up should be respected and violating the law is not permitted, he said.

He charged that police are purchased and they are highly controlled by the minister and other Congress leaders. The victim tried to speak to the police.

But the police are still looking at the minister for permission to register an FIR. The minister should be ashamed of himself for acting innocent over the incidents when questioned by the media. The party would surely lay size to the office of the police head if they fail to initiate action, he added.

He said the accused should be booked under IPC Sections 307 and 502. The present situation clearly shows that the accused will not be arrested unless the Opposition takes up a rigorous protest. The minister will be held responsible for the entire nuisance, he charged.

BJP district president Mattar Ratnakar Hegde charged that women are not safe under Congress rule. The woman councilor was dragged inhumanly and attacked by the Congress councilors.

The district in-charge minister should immediately resign as he has already proved that he is incapable of handling the district. The incident will remain as a black spot in the history of the district besides making the public here bow their head out of shame, he added.

Those people who were supposed to be in jail with criminal background are the councilors of the temple city, which is unfortunate, he regretted.

Meanwhile, CMC president Meenkashi Madhav Bannanje and former president Yuvaraj has strongly condemned the BJP for dragging the minister into the controvery. Calling Congress councillors are as rowdies is in bad taste. The Opposition party should maintain decency. There are 22 councilors, including the nominated members. Not even one has any sort of criminal case.

The BJP, which is known for its rowdism, should be aware of the rave party and CD incident involving the former MLA Raghupthay Bhat. Some BJP councillors have criminal background, they charged.
