'Food supplied to anganwadis substandard'

Inaugurating the Anganwadi workers’ building at V Yaradakere in Kadur taluk on Sunday, he said that ‘souji’ and various other food ingredients used in the anganwadis are adulterated food and hence the children in Anganwadis are not getting nutritious food. “There are cases of vomiting and diarrhoea among children due to poor quality food. Hence, food samples from Magadi-Kaimara food preparation unit has been sent for testing,” he informed and said that once the report comes out, action will be initiated against the manufacturers.

He urged the Anganwadi workers not to provide such poor quality food to the children and expectant women. Visiting various anganwadis he witnessed expired food packets, which he said should be discarded and should not be used at all. He said that people should come forth to make use of various schemes of the government. “People should make use of Yashashwini card. The Government is providing Rs 3,000 for construction of toilets and Rs 700 under employee guarantee scheme,” he said.

He said that seeds for sowing have been kept ready in Hirenallur, Yagati, Singatagere, Sakharayapatna and Kadur and farmers can get seeds and fertilisers as the rains have started.

He inaugurated Anganwadi building at Hampapura, a guest house of Anganwadi workers at V Yaradakere and another Anganwdadi building at Chatnalli. Gram Panchayat President C M Kalleshappa was felicitated for providing land for construction of Alaghatta Anganwadi building.
