EC to take e-governance route in future elections

Last Updated 06 July 2017, 20:35 IST
The Election Commission will use information technology in conducting the Assembly and Lok Sabha polls, new Chief Election Commissioner A K Joti said.

Joti assumed charge as CEC on Thursday after Nasim Zaidi demitted office a day earlier.

He said the poll panel would actively promote e-governance while conducting elections, assuring that it would “pursue vigorously” its commitment to hold free, fair, inclusive and  credible elections in the country. The panel will also enrol all eligible voters, consistent with its motto of “no voters will be left out”.

Joti, a 1975-batch Indian Administrative Service officer, has been an Election Commissioner since 2015.

With Zaidi at the helm, the three-member panel conducted Assembly elections in Bihar, Assam, West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa in the past two years.
